What is Friendship Force?

The Friendship Force was founded in 1977 by Wayne Smith, President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Rosalyn Carter.  It is a non-profit organization head-quartered in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A.  Today there are a total of 378 clubs around the world, in 56 countries and on six continents.

The Dubuque Club was started in 1979 with an exchange to Guatemala City, Guatemala.  We were the first club in Iowa.

Friendship Force International

FFI coordinates “exchanges” between clubs around the world.  Depending on the size of the hosting club, you’ll be traveling with up to 20-25 people. When you participate in an exchange, you’ll be matched up with a member in the hosting club and stay in their home, sharing meals, family, friends and conversation!  The host club plans activities that show you their city, their country and typical way of life.  The home-hosting is usually for one week, but exchanges are often expanded to include two weeks of home-hosting, in two different cities.
